E-sports: An Enigma

E-sports: A phenomenon that started as a past time for majority of the kids such as me and had its first ever tournament in 1972 is now a $1.1 billion industry. From just a computer game to a competitive industry with ever-growing competition, E-sport is the giant that everyone is now either scared of or interested in. The most critical factor that makes E-sports such a great force is the accessibility – fans can view it either live or whenever they want to across any device. Anyone sitting in the comfort of their home can become a professional if they have the talent and passion for it and it has a wide scope for entertainment from the broadcasting and streaming perspective.

With The International running successfully for over 10 years, E-sports has proved that it has the will and determination to be in the big sport leagues and with more and more gamers coming up, the support from families is also increasing. Schools now have E-sport programs and developers and players have an equal landscape of opportunity to grow. Big brands are not hesitating to associate their names with the gaming leagues anymore. Gone are the days when E-sport tournaments only had Intel and NVIDIA as a sponsor. Now energy drinks, FMCG brands, clothing brands and a wide variety of clients wants their share of cake in the E-sports industry.

It is going to be an amazing journey to observe and see where this industry goes and what heights does it achieve. Until then, game on 😊
